Haunted in the Inland Empire: The Alley Hotel Mystery

Not all ghost stories belong to Hollywood. Some live closer than you think — hidden in Redlands, just off the beaten path.

The Alley Hotel first opened its doors in 1927, welcoming wealthy travelers and curious visitors alike. But by the 1930s, whispers began spreading: guests vanishing, rooms sealed, hallways where the wallpaper seemed to breathe.

Locals in Redlands, Riverside, San Bernardino, Yucaipa, and Rancho Cucamonga still talk about it. Some even claim their grandparents warned them never to walk too close to the building after dark.

Inside, it feels like time stopped. Chandeliers hang heavy with dust, and the piano — though untouched — still hums a single note at night. Most unsettling of all is Room 1187, permanently locked, where guests in neighboring rooms swear they hear footsteps and faint laughter.

Today, the hotel has been reopened to the public. Visitors can step into its haunted halls, walk through the spaces where disappearances began, and decide for themselves:

👁️ Is it just a story?

🕯️ Or has the Inland Empire been hiding one of California’s darkest secrets all along?
