Escape rooms come in many styles, but few capture the imagination like a haunted hotel setting. At The Alley Hotel in Redlands, our inspiration draws from the eerie charm of vintage hotels, chilling ghost stories, and the dark secrets that old buildings seem to whisper.

A Blend of History and Horror

The Alley Hotel is inspired by real-world tales of vanished guests, mysterious disappearances, and the haunting atmosphere that lingers in forgotten hotels. We combined these elements with the classic Americana hotel vibe from the 1920s to the 1980s, creating a space that feels both familiar and unsettling.

Our Sweet Little “Monster” Story Jane

This story isn’t just about ghosts — it’s also about our real-life muse: Story Jane. When we began creating The Alley Hotel, Story Jane was just 6 years old — a sweet, bright-eyed girl with a passion for Halloween and a unique collection of around 40 creepy dolls. A talented dancer and gymnast, she inspired us to add a special twist to the room’s design, blending whimsy with eerie charm. Her love for spooky dolls and stories gave the escape room a playful yet haunting personality you can feel throughout the experience.

The Tale of Story and Jack

Central to our theme is the tragic story of a little girl named Story, who disappeared under suspicious circumstances, and her father Jack, who spiraled into madness trying to bring her back. This narrative explores grief, revenge, and blurred lines between science and horror—giving players an emotional anchor alongside the puzzles.

Drawing from Vintage Medical and Circus Aesthetics

We combined vintage medical props, like scent jars and specimen labels, with unsettling circus and carnival motifs from the 1980s. This creates a surreal atmosphere that keeps players on edge, blurring reality and twisted imagination.
